Of all the German makes, Borgward Group's Lloyd may be the most misunderstood, with how it sounds English at first (it is 100% German, with Lloyd being formerly used in German speaking countries to describe a sea freight line, after the maritime agency Lloyds of London, and is a distant cousin of the Norddeutscher Lloyd) and with how the goofy, bulgy little cars were a flash in the pan on the US, British and Australian markets, being at one point almost as popular as VW, Fiat or Renault imports, yet disappearing in 1961 over the still contentious bankruptcy and liquidation of the Borgward Group.
Surviving literature for all Borgward cars & trucks is scarce, especially so for the US market where Borgward and its sub-brands Lloyd & Goliath were aggressively marketed for a few years by Fergus Imported Cars and the Earle C. Anthony organization, and did sell a respectable amount compared to other Continental marques that sold few to no cars stateside. So it was a real treat to find an English language, LHD depicting Lloyd factory accessory manual and share it with DRIVETRIBE.
One wonders how much (if any) of this was actually imported, and how much (if any) survived as dead stock or was put on a car.
