The Gran Turismo movie becomes the latest video game to be adapted for the big screen. South African director Neill Blomkamp will be the man in charge of the film which will premiere in August of 2023.

Just under a year away from its release, the Gran Turismo movie seems to be coming together. Earmarked for a theatrical release on the 11th of August in 2023, the adapted video game will follow a creative approach rather than just replicate gameplay.
The premise of the movie is an adaptation of a true story which saw a teenage player of Gran Turismo win a series of Nissan competitions and inadvertently become a professional driver converting his virtual passion into a reality. Neill Blomkamp has been confirmed as the movie director, the locally born creative is responsible for movies with familiar backdrops which includes District 9, Chappie and Elysium.

David Harbour has also been confirmed as a main storyline member. The star of Stranger Things has been cast as a retired driver who coaches the teenager in the aforementioned plot who will be played by Briton Archie Madekwe. Orlando Bloom of Pirates of the Caribbean has also been confirmed for the ensemble.
The creator of the iconic gaming series, Kazunori Yamauchi will be among the film’s executive producers so we can expect the racing aspect to remain a core of the famed franchise’s first endeavour onto the big screen.
The latest instalment of the racing simulator is Gran Turismo 7 which is available on PlayStation 4 and 5. From launch, the game had access to 400+ cars (a number which has increased with each update) while dozens of international circuits can be raced on.
