Ambitious EV-maker Faraday Future’s FF91 has taken its latest turn in stride, netting a rating of 381 miles (613.1 km) of range from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In 2017, the company said the SUV should get about 379 miles of range, making this (slightly) even-better official rating a win for consumers.
(The impressive part is even 379 would have been quite a lot, for something the size and weight of the FF91. At a whopping 206.7 inches in length, the FF91 over eight inches longer than a Tesla Model X.)
The Futurist trim of the SUV packs a three-motor powertrain delivering a maximum 1,050 hp, with a zero-to-96-km/h time below 3.0 seconds. The Futurist spins on massive 22-inch wheels, houses a gigantic 130-kWh battery, and also comes fully equipped with tonnes of features.
The similarly powered Tesla Model X Plaid offers only 311 miles (500 km) of range when rolling on 22-inch wheels. With 20-inch wheels, the Tesla’s range hits 333 miles (535 km).
“The confirmation of our 381 miles of range by the EPA is truly exciting news for FF and validates what we know about the FF91,” said Carsten Breitfeld, Faraday Future’s CEO. “Our integrated propulsion system with a lithium-ion battery pack efficiently converts battery energy to power the vehicle and effectively recovers and reuses brake energy to optimize and extend range.”
You can pre-order a FF91, but there’s no delivery dates yet, as the company needs more capital prior to launch. I know, I know — not very reassuring. Hanford, California – which has already assembled Faraday Future pre-production models – is where the EVs are planned to be built.
While no official pricing has been revealed, the company has said the starting price for the FF91 Futurist will be around US$180,000, with a base model coming in around US$120,000.
