The global supply chain disruption has caused the prices of vehicle products and spare parts to also go up. The prices for these products have changed three times in just this year alone and, in turn, affected the cost of car maintenance to go up as well.
In a recent report, Harian Metro estimates that the price of semi-synthetic engine oil has increased from RM 155 to RM 185.
Wear and tear components such as spark plugs (from RM 65 up to RM 80), transmission fluid (from RM 28 to RM 35), brake pads (from RM 60 to RM 85), and shock absorber (from RM 165 to RM 180) all suffer a similar fate.
As a result of the price increase, car repair workshops have also had to increase the overall cost of car service and maintenance.
Owner of Double S Garage workshop, Aris Fauzee Ahmad, used engine oil as an example. At the start of the year, engine oil at his workshop was still sold at around RM 100, but at the time of writing, it has increased to RM 120. That is a 20 percent increase during this year alone.
To compensate for the price increase for products, Aris also had to increase labour price to balance out the cost.
To make sure that car maintenance does not overburden his customers, Aris had to start looking for alternative brands that offer attractive prices but still maintain the same quality.
While there are workshops that offer cheaper services out there, Aris warns car owners to be cautious about the quality of the products these workshops are offering.
