The Railwaymen Union of Malaysia claims that the reason for KTM’s constant train delays is due to the insufficient trains in service and irregular arrivals.
President Abdul Razak Md Hassan told the Malaysian Insight that commuters are forced to wait up to 40 minutes for a train when the train frequency should be every 10 minutes.

He further revealed to the news portal that Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) currently only have 25 trains in service. Meanwhile, 11 more trains are not in service as they need to be overhauled since they have exceeded the set mileage.
In June, the Union and the Transport Ministry traded blows on who was to blame for the poor KTM service. Razak alleged that the ministry is delaying KTMB-related projects on purpose and even pointed out that the train sets the ministry had bought were of low quality.
On another note, KTMB CEO Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin revealed that the KTM trains are currently only operating at half capacity as only 21,000 people travel via Komuter trains a day. The KTM trains are capable of a full capacity of 40,000 passengers.
Mohd Rani had urged Malaysians to make use of the KTM service to help reduce the ongoing road congestion issue.
