In the UK, Jörg Hofmann is leaving the London Electric Vehicle Company, which belongs to the Geely Group. His successor as of 1 July will be Alex Nan, who will be trained by Hofmann until the end of August. Jörg Hofmann will join the Northern Irish bus manufacturer Wrightbus as CEO in September.
LEVC hired Hofmann as CEO in early 2019. At that point, LEVC had put a few hundred TX range extender taxis on the road since launching in 2017. The company has since sold 7,000 TXs, not including the VN5 van model (our driving review here).
With effect from 1 July, Alex Nan will take over full responsibility for LEVC worldwide. Nan already knows the company, currently the chairman at LEVC – so he is now moving into an operational role. The company says he brings extensive experience in sales & marketing, product strategy and planning.
Alex Nan said that Hofmann “has spearheaded the launch of the VN5 light commercial vehicle, guided the company through the Covid pandemic and overseen the major recent milestone of 7,000 global sales of the world’s most advanced electric taxi – the TX.” Looking towards the future, he surmised: As LEVC enters the next exciting stage in its product and development strategy, together with the management, I will continue to push the company towards a greener, more technology-driven and sustainable future.”
Hofmann will be moving to the neighbouring island of Ireland: The Irish News reports that Hofmann will become the new CEO of Wrightbus. There, he will replace Buta Atwal, who retires at the end of the year. Atwal had taken over the CEO post at the Northern Irish bus manufacturer from Ballymena after the Jo Bamford company bought Wrightbus out of insolvency in 2019. Just on the day Hofmann’s move to Wrightbus is announced, the company has announced a major framework agreement for 800 electric buses with the Irish National Transport Authority.
