Buda MendesGetty ImagesWorld Wide Technology Raceway near St. Louis is finally getting a NASCAR Cup Series race this weekend.
Unfortunately, Chris Buescher is going to miss it.
RFK Racing announced on Thursday that Buescher has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series event at WWTR (formerly Gateway Raceway).
Current NASCAR Truck Series points leader Zane Smith will fill in for Buescher in the No. 17 Acronis Ford. Smith has three wins and eight top-10 finishes in 10 starts in the Truck Series this season, having led 253 laps. Smith will become the 24th driver to drive for team owner Jack Roush in the NASCAR Cup Series.
Buescher plans to return to action next week at Sonoma.
Getting some rest today. Thanks everyone for the well wishes. @zanesmith77 I’ve seen your success in trucks this year, the 17 is in good hands 👊🏻
