ineos, ineos quartermaster, all the optional extras on south africa’s most expensive bakkie

The new Ineos Quartermaster is now available to order in South Africa, and despite being the unknown automaker’s very first charge into the bakkie segment, the double cab is currently the most expensive one of its kind on the local market at a starting price of R1.7 million – R387,000 higher than second place, the Jeep Gladiator.

It’s not only the bakkie that’s pricey, but also the equipment you can put on it, as Ineos has made available over 80 optional extras with which buyers can customise the Quartermaster, their prices ranging from R210 for a jerry can mount, all the way up to R68,455 for an integrated winch with a 5.5-tonne capacity.

The accessories are categorised into 17 segments, including but not limited to extra off-roading essentials like front and rear diff locks, in-cabin amenities such as leather seats and carpet flooring, and exterior customisation options in the form of several body and chassis colours.

While these add-ons are all available on the base Quartermaster, some of them are included as standard on the pricier Fieldmaster and Trialmaster models.

The Ineos is already a rather impressive vehicle, being billed as one of the most capable off-roaders currently on the market.

Two turbocharged, 3.0-litre powerplants are available running on either petrol or diesel, providing outputs of 210kW and 450Nm, or 183kW and 550Nm, and both are paired with eight-speed auto-boxes with low range.

As standard, the bakkie is equipped with a central diff lock and permanent four-wheel-drive system, with 17-inch steel wheels and Bridgestone all-terrain tyres continuing the rugged affair.

Built on the same platform as the Grenadier SUV with larger dimensions to accommodate the 1,564mm-long and 1,619mm-wide load box, the Quartermaster comes in at 5,400mm in length, 2,146mm in width, and 2,019mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,227mm.

It also has a ground clearance of 264mm and can wade through up to 800mm of water, and it boasts an impressive approach angle of 36.2 degrees, departure angle of 22.6 degrees, and break-over angle of 26.2 degrees.
