Full pricing and specification details finally revealed for hotly anticipated new British 4×4 off-roader
After an extensive pre-release campaign, full Australian pricing and specifications for the inbound 2022 INEOS Grenadier – including no fewer than 12 variants spanning two body styles, two powertrains and three trim levels – have been revealed.
Prices for the long-awaited hard-core off-roader start from $84,500 plus on-road costs for the two-seat Utility Wagon and $85,500 plus ORCs for the five-seat Station Wagon, and stretch up to $96,495 for the kitted-out five-seat TrialMaster and Fieldmaster Editions ($95,495 for the equivalent Utility Wagons, which cost $1000 less).
All versions are available with the choice of two BMW-sourced 3.0-litre straight-six engines – 210kW/450Nm turbo-petrol or 184kW/550Nm twin-turbo diesel – and INEOS has delivered on its promise to offer both powerplants for the same price.
The two units are mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels all of the time via a lockable centre differential and Tremec low-range transfer case – as standard in all variants.
Fuel economy for petrol models is rated at between 12.9-15.3L/100km on the combined WLTP cycle, with the diesels predictably consuming less at 10.1-11.8L/100km.

Described as being stripped back and a “blank canvas ready to be configured” by their creators, the base model Grenadiers are far from poorly equipped with infotainment duties handled by a 12.1-inch interface featuring DAB+ digital radio, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth connectivity, plus INEOS Automotive’s Pathfinder off-road navigation system.
Trimmed in “tough cloth and vinyl” upholstery, the manual-adjustable front seats come courtesy of Recaro while air-conditioning duties are taken care of by a single-zone climate control system.
Other standard equipment highlights include full LED exterior lighting, a Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel, 17-inch steel wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Dueler all-terrain tyres, a full-size spare, reversing camera, heated rear window, cruise control, power windows and central locking.
Justifying the extra outlay, the Fieldmaster and Trialmaster Editions up the ante both in terms of the standard toys and off-road hardware, with the latter version being the most adventure-ready straight out of the box.
The Fieldmaster upgrades its rolling stock from the standard 17-inch steelies to 17-inch alloy hoops – fastened with locking wheel nuts – but retains the same Bridgestone A/T rubber.
The more utilitarian features continue with the inclusion of a roof-access ladder, lockable central stowage box, puddle lamps, auxiliary charge points, compass, altimeter, a NAS tow hitch and matching wiring harness and safari windows.
In terms of creature comforts, the Fieldmaster adds a full leather interior with heated front seats, carpet floor mats, power heated exterior mirrors, heated windscreen washer jets, front parking sensors and ambient door lighting.
Building on these specs further, the rugged Trialmaster Edition retains the base model’s steel wheels but rolls on angrier BFGoodrich T/A K02 tyres.
Locking front and rear differentials are also added to the mix and all three (centre included) are able to be locked or unlocked independently of one another, but they all unlock automatically at 75km/h to protect the drivetrain.
Other more rugged touches include the base model’s hoseable and drain-ported heavy-duty utility flooring, exterior and interior utility belts, a raised air intake for better water fording abilities, an auxiliary battery, high load auxiliary switch panel and all the relevant electrical preparation.
All Grenadiers ride on Eibach coil springs front and rear, while Brembo disc brake callipers handle stopping duties at all four corners.
Six airbags, anti-lock brakes, electronic traction/stability control, automatic hazard warning, tyre pressure monitoring, SOS Emergency Call, trailer stability assist and parking sensors comprise the bulk of the standard safety gear.
Designed as an unapologetic off-roader, the Grenadier offers a generous 264mm of ground clearance, a wading depth of 800mm and an array of different off-road modes and read-outs for when things get tricky (off-road mode, wading mode, hill descent control and uphill assist).
The short overhangs and high ground clearance results in a 36.2-degree approach angle, a 28.2-degree breakover angle and a 36.1-degree departure angle.
Naturally for such a focused off-roader, the underbody and fuel tank are protected by a series of steel bash and skid plates.
Braked towing capacity across the range is pegged at the class-standard 3500kg while the rear of the Utility Wagons can swallow a Euro pallet thanks to its 2088 litres of cargo space.
The Station Wagons offer up 2035L of space with the 60:40-split/folding second row stowed, or 1152L when they’re in place.
Orders open on May 18, before production in Hambach starts in July, and the Grenadier will be backed by a five-year/unlimited-kilometre factory warranty.
