Chemical-company-turned-carmaker Ineos has debuted the new Quartermaster bakkie which is coming to South Africa.
The manufacturer confirmed that order books for the double cab will open on 1 August, with pricing to be released on the same day.
The Quartermaster was developed in tandem with the Grenadier SUV, the latter of which commenced local deliveries last month.

The Quartermaster shares most of its foundational components with the Grenadier, but to offer a load box that is both more spacious and versatile than an SUV’s boot, the bakkie’s ladder-frame chassis has been extended by 305mm.
This results in a large load bay of 1,564mm long and 1,619mm wide which accommodates a standard 1,200mm x 800mm Euro pallet.
“Its everyday cargo-lugging versatility is assured by four tie-down rings in the load space (Utility Rails optional), a 400W power take-off, an integrated mounting bar, and a wide 1,280mm tailgate that can support up to 225kg when open,” said Ineos.
The Quartermaster’s cargo bay can also be fitted with a variety of accessories, including a robust frame and waterproof canvas canopy or a lockable roller tonneau cover, while a roof rack amplifies its carrying capacity and can host a wide range of mounts for Overlanding essentials such as jerry cans, sand ladders, and shovels.
Driving the bakkie is the same set of powerplants as the SUV. As such, buyers have a choice between a BMW-sourced 3.0-litre, turbo-petrol or turbo-diesel motor.
These drivelines generate 210kW and 450Nm in petrol guise, and 183kW and 550Nm in diesel, and both connect to an eight-speed automatic gearbox with a two-speed transfer case and permanent 4×4 system.
A centre differential lock is also standard, front and rear diff locks are optional, and braking is handled by powerful Brembo callipers and rotors.
Regardless of the chosen configuration, the Ineos boasts a towing capacity of 3,500kg and a maximum load capacity of 760kg.
It also has a ground clearance of 264mm and a maximum water wading depth of 800mm, in addition to “approach, breakover and departure angles unrivalled by any other series production pick-up,” said Ineos.
Like the Grenadier, the new Quartermaster is offered in three distinct equipment levels – Standard, Trialmaster, and Fieldmaster.
Depending on the specification, the Nappa or Saddle leather upholstery, Recaro seats, a multifunction steering wheel, a touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, a rear-view camera, and front and rear parking sensors.
In addition, the cabin features heavy-duty flooring with drainage valves, simplistic styling with hard-wearing materials, an overhead auxiliary switch panel connected to an auxiliary battery, a compass with an altimeter, interior utility rails, and the Pathfinder off-road navigation system.
