Ineos, has revealed the South African pricing of its new high-end bakkie, the Quartermaster.
The 4×4 is now available to order in South Africa from SMH Group in Gauteng and SMG in KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape, Northern Cape, and Eastern Cape, with prices starting at R1,717,100.
The Quartermaster is the second vehicle to come from the chemical company-turned-automaker, following in the footsteps of the Grenadier SUV that arrived in South Africa in June.
Performance
The Quartermaster is built on the same platform as the Grenadier, but its dimensions have been altered to accommodate a 1,564mm-long and 1,1619mm-wide load bay that can fit a standard Euro pallet.
In total, the vehicle is 5,400mm in length, 2,146mm in width, and 2,019mm in height, with a wheelbase that measures 3,227mm.
The double cab also has a ground clearance of 264mm and can wade through up to 800mm of water, and it boasts an impressive approach angle of 36.2 degrees, departure angle of 22.6 degrees, and break-over angle of 26.2 degrees.
For power, the new Ineos is available with the same two engines found on the Grenadier in the form of a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel or petrol – both of which are sourced from BMW.
The petrol version generates 210kW and 450Nm, while the diesel offers more torque and less power with an output of 183kW and 550Nm. Fuel consumption is then pegged at 13.0l/100km for the petrol and 9.5l/100km for the diesel.
Regardless of the powertrain selected, the Quartermaster uses an eight-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case for high and low gear ratios, which connect to a permanent four-wheel-drive system with a central differential lock.
All of these factors combined mean the bakkie can tow up to 3,500kg, and carry 760kg in the back.
Features
Ineos’ new 4×4 is available in three trim levels – Quartermaster, Trialmaster, and Fieldmaster – the latter two of which share the same price and simply offer different features.
Standard equipment on all models includes 17-inch steel wheels with Bridgestone all-terrain tyres, a “utility” cloth upholstery, a Nappa leather steering wheel, rear park-distance control, heavy-duty flooring with drainage valves for easy washing, a first aid kit, a rear mounting bar for the load area, front and rear skid plates, LED headlights, an overhead control panel with pre-wired switches, roof rails, and an off-road navigation system.
Upgrading to the Trialmaster throws in the “Rough” and “Smooth” accessory packs, which add BF Goodrich all-terrain tyres, a rearview camera, front park assist, heated electronic side mirrors, a lockable centre storage box, ambient door lighting, an auxiliary battery and extra USB type-A and C charging ports, a raised air intake, an anti-scratch finish on the load bay, and utility side rails.
In contrast, the Fieldmaster offers 18-inch alloy rims with locking wheel nuts, two detachable “safari” sunroofs, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a lockable centre storage box, an upgraded sound system, a compass with an altimeter, in addition to the Smooth pack which adds the rearview camera, electric mirrors, and front parking sensors.
Ineos also provides a wide range of optional extras such as bull bars, towing and winch equipment, roof racks, and cross bars.
By default, the vehicle comes in a Scottish white paint scheme, but customers can choose alternate colours and wheel designs, as well as a two-tone black roof, at an additional cost.
