Chemical-maker-turned-car-manufacturer Ineos has officially opened its Sub-Saharan African headquarters (HQ) in the Victoria & Alfred (V&A) Waterfront complex in Cape Town.
True to the brand’s adventurous nature, the HQ includes a flagship SMG dealership as well as a seafront 4×4 track for interested buyers to test the mettle of the Grenadier SUV before they commit to buying one.
“The Ineos Grenadier was built with African journeys in mind and right from the start we knew this brand wasn’t suited to an office park, especially not in South Africa. We were looking for something exceptional and we found it,” said Tim Abbott, Head of Region for Ineos Automotive Sub-Saharan Africa.
The new Ineos HQ and flagship SMG sales and service partner is located at the Helistop on East Pier Road at the V&A Waterfront, and it is now open to the public.
What’s available
Ineos currently has two vehicles in its portfolio that are available to all its customers around the globe, including the aforementioned Grenadier SUV as well as the Quartermaster Double Cab that is built upon the same architecture.
Both models are available in base, Fieldmaster, and Trialmaster specifications, with prices starting at R1,717,100 and going up to R1,862,100 without any optional extras equipped, of which there are many.
Regardless of whether you go for the bakkie or the SUV, you’ll have a choice of a 3.0-litre, turbo-diesel or turbo-petrol motor mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The diesel puts out 210kW and 450Nm, and the petrol does 183kW and 550Nm, and both feature a central diff lock and permanent 4×4 system with low-range gear ratios.
Built to conquer the great outdoors, the Ineos off-roaders boast a ground clearance of 264mm, a maximum water-wading depth of 800mm, and an approach angle of 36.2 degrees – but due to its 545mm-longer body, the double cab’s break-over and departure angles are slightly less aggressive at 26.2 and 22.6 degrees, respectively, compared to the SUV’s 28.2 and 36.1 degrees.
They also come with 17-inch steel wheels, Bridgestone all-terrain tires, front and rear skid plates, LED headlights, and roof rails as standard.
The automaker recently revealed to TopAuto that interest from South African customers has exceeded its expectations since the brand first opened reservations back in April 2022.
This year, Ineos already delivered 50 Grenadier vehicles to their new owners, with the most popular model by far being the top-end Trialmaster trim matched with the diesel powerplant.
The uptake of factory-fit accessories has also been “very high,” it said, led by bull bars, picnic tables, rock sliders, roof racks, seat covers, and winches.
