Ineos enters the pickup truck market with the Grenadier Quartermaster unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed

The pickup truck market is a fairly sparse one in the UK, but Ineos has now added a pickup version of its Grenadier off-roader, dubbed the Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster. The Grenadier Quartermaster will go up against rivals such as the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Volkswagen Amarok and Isuzu D-Max.
The Quartermaster is heavily based on the Grenadier, a car which itself is heavily inspired by the original and now discontinued Land Rover Defender, and promises to provide the same rugged off-road capability.
The Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster is 305mm longer than the standard SUV and adds an open load bay at the rear, adding to its load-lugging versatility. The load bay is 1,564mm long and 1,619mm wide, meaning it’s big enough to carry a standard 1,200mm by 800mm Euro pallet with room to spare. It has a 760kg payload and 3,500kg towing capacity.
There are four tie-down rings in the load bay to keep cargo secure, plus the wide tailgate can support up to 225kg. The pickup comes with a double cab configuration, so it can seat up to five passengers.
In terms of powertrains, the Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster uses the same BMW-sourced 3.0-litre turbocharged engines as the SUV, available in petrol or diesel guise and paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
To aid the pickup’s off-roading abilities, it gets a centre-locking differential and two-speed transfer case, with the option of both a front and rear differential lock as well. The Grenadier Quartermaster has 264mm of ground clearance and can wade through water up to 800mm deep.
Just like the Grenadier SUV, the Quartermaster pickup will be available in standard, Trialmaster and Fieldmaster trim levels. The standard car starts from £66,215, with the two other trims getting the same £73,715 price tag.
Trialmaster adds utilitarian equipment such as the front and rear differential locks and a raised air filter for driving in water, upgraded off-road tyres, an exterior utility belt, and a 400W power supply, which enables you to use appliances and tools from the back of the car. There are also load bay utility rails to help get cargo in and out.
Fieldmaster adds comfort-focused features such as leather seats as standard, heated front seats, carpet floor mats and a premium sound system.
Ineos’ pickup is also available with plenty of accessories to add to its usability, such as a robust frame and waterproof canvas canopy, lockable roller tonneau cover, roof rack, jerry cans, sand ladders and shovels, so it’s well and truly ready for the great outdoors.
