A high-performance, all-electric pick-up truck is confirmed by Fisker and is set to feature clever practicality solutions
Fisker CEO Henrik Fisker has confirmed to Auto Express that the rumoured Fisker pick-up is set to become a reality. “Yes, we are going to do a pick-up,” he told us, going on to reveal what to expect from the truck when it arrives. “If Ferrari were to do a pick-up, this is what it’d be like,” he said.
The US-based all-electric start-up, currently in the process of launching its Ocean SUV, had been rumoured to be building a pick-up for some time, with Henrik Fisker referring to it as ‘the Alaska programme’ in the past and posting a teaser image on social media in 2020. But speaking at the launch of the Ocean in Austria, Henrik Fisker confirmed that the pick-up is definitely in the plans and hinted that the “sportiest of pick-ups” may be revealed soon.
Other firms are already having success with electric pick-up trucks in the US, including rival start-up Rivian as well as legacy car makers such as Ford and GM, while Tesla has just started production of its long-awaited Cybertruck. Now Fisker is about to join the fray, buoyed by the growing market for premium pick-ups, especially in the US.
Henrik Fisker also told us to expect some novel thinking when it comes to practicality. The Fisker Ocean features a drop-down rear window to enable the car to carry extra-long loads and the pick-up could utilise similar thinking.
The pick-up would also aim to be the most sustainable truck on the market, following Fisker’s goal for the Ocean to be “the world’s most sustainable car” with the truck using a range of innovative sustainable materials.
Fisker’s pick-up is likely to feature similar proportions to the Rivian R1T with a spacious double cab seating five people up front, and a pick-up bed around 4.5 ft long (1,370mm) – shorter than many traditional pick-ups and both Ford’s F150 Lightning and Tesla’s Cybertruck.
However, Henrik Fisker showed obvious excitement when it came to the practicality solutions planned for his company’s pick-up, telling us that – like the Ocean – it would have a way to carry even longer loads, possibly with fold-down rear seats and a hidden panel at the back of the cab to enable the truck to occasionally carry longer items poked through from the load area. “Wait to see some of the things we’ve come up with,” he told us. “They’re really clever.”
The new Fisker pick-up is likely to share much of its tech with the Fisker Ocean, including its FM29 platform, although it’s also likely to get a different designation as it will be stretched from the 2,921mm of the Ocean (hence the 29 in the name). The Ocean’s 113kWh battery could be one of the options in the Fisker pick-up.
Despite it sharing much of its tech with the Ocean, Henrik Fisker reassured us that the new vehicle would be a proper pick-up with the height, stance and ground clearance of a truck, but with a “really sporty look”.

There’s no word yet on where the new pick-up will be built or by who – Fisker’s new partner Foxconn, which will build the Fisker Pear in the US, could be an option. However, Henrik Fisker did confirm that he was considering ‘local production’ for the Ocean in the US, in addition to the current arrangement with Magna to build the Ocean in Austria, to benefit from tax breaks given by the US government to US-built EVs.
Either way, although the Fisker pick-up is expected to be revealed fairly soon, we wouldn’t expect Fisker fans to be able to own one until at least 2025.
