Tata Motors revealed the internal combustion engine version of the Curvv concept at Auto Expo 2023. The Tata Curvv was revealed as an EV last year.
The Tata Curvv ICE will hit our streets next year and is expected to feature the new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that Tata showcased at Auto Expo 2023.
Tata Curvv ICE Design & Features
The Tata Curvv showcased at Auto Expo is slightly different in terms of its looks compared to the concept EV that was unveiled last year. The updated design gives the Curvv a more production-ready look and we expect Tata to retain most of the details seen on the Auto Expo concept vehicle in the production version of the coupe-SUV.
At the front, the Tata Curvv ICE sports the new Signature Tata look with the LED DRLs connected together by a lightbar that stretches across the front of the car.
The Tata badge sits directly underneath the lightbar while the headlights can be found in their own enclosure on either edge of the front bumper. The front bumper also features a large air dam to help with the extra cooling needed for an ICE-powered vehicle.
When viewed from the sides, the Tata Curvv retains the sloping coupe roof that made last year’s EV such an attention grabber. The Curvv rides on a snazzy set of alloy wheels that look like they could make it into production when the SUV hits the market in 2024. The plastic cladding on the wheelarches gives the Curvv a more rugged and tough look.
At the rear, the sloping roofline merges smoothly with the rear opening. The boot lid section features full-width LED taillights that end up at a sharp angle that contours to the sides of the Curvv. Also seen are two small winglets that are integrated into the roofline of the Curvv along with a large faux bash plate lower down on the rear bumper.
The interiors of the Curvv are quite minimalist with a layered dash and four seats – the rear captain seats are expected to be turned into a bench for the production car. Also seen is a new steering wheel with a lit-up Tata logo that is expected to come in all new models following the Curvv. Behind the steering wheel sits a widescreen driver’s display for the instrumentation while another unit, this time a touchscreen sits atop the centre of the dash for all the infotainment requirements.
Tata Curvv ICE Powertrain Details
Tata Motors showcased two new turbocharged petrol engines at Auto Expo with the smaller displacing 1.2-litres and the larger 1.5-litres. The ICE version of the Curvv will sport the smaller of two direct injection engines that pushes out 123bhp and 225Nm of peak torque. The engine is expected to be offered with both manual and automatic transmission options.
Thoughts About The Tata Curvv ICE
The ICE version of the Tata Curvv is the firm’s long-awaited answer to the Hyundai Creta and the newly launched Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder.
While Tata doesn’t seem to be going down the hybrid route with Curvv ICE, the SUV’s unique styling should attract hordes of customers into the showrooms when it arrives in 2024 and even more when the EV version follows it onto the streets.
