Auto Expo 2023 will kick off in the second week of January after a wait of nearly 3 years and we are expecting quite a barrage of EVs to make their debut in India next month at the nation’s biggest car show.
In this article, we’ll take a look at the top 5 Electric cars that are expected to debut at Auto Expo 2023…
1) Hyundai Ioniq 5
Hyundai’s flagship EV for the Indian market, the Ioniq 5 will have its official launch at Auto Expo 2023. The Ioniq 5 for India is being locally assembled using CKD kits at Hyundai’s facilities near Chennai and bookings for the same will open on the 20th of December.
The Ioniq 5 offers a large 72.6kWh battery pack with a range of 460km that can also be found on the Kia EV6. The larger battery pack version of the Ioniq 5 is offered in both single motor (RWD – 218bhp) and dual-motor (AWD – 302bhp) guises. A smaller 58kWh battery pack with a range of 383km and less powerful motors is also on offer.

2) Hyundai Kona EV
Hyundai’s second EV on this list comes in the form of the facelifted Kona EV electric SUV. The facelifted Kona EV is expected to debut at the Expo and features an updated front and rear end, new alloy wheels, and an updated interior compared to the one currently on sale in India.
Globally, the Kona EV is offered with two battery pack options – 39.2kWh and 64kWh. The lower-spec 39.2kWh pack is offered with a range of 304km and a single 136hp motor. The larger 64kWh battery pack version of the Kona EV offers up a range of 483km and ups the power to 201bhp. India is expected to get the lower-spec Kona which is expected to be slightly higher than the current vehicle’s Rs 24 lakh (ex-showroom) price tag.
3) Tata Altroz EV
The Tata Altroz is the only vehicle in Tata’s sub-10 lakh portfolio that has not spawned an EV to date. However, that is set to change at Auto Expo 2023 when Tata is expected to take the wraps off the Altroz EV.
The Altroz EV is expected to borrow the battery pack and motor from the Nexon EV Max and offer a range of over 400 kilometres on a single charge.
4) MG Air EV
The MG Air EV will be the second all-electric offering from the Chinese-owned British carmaker. The MG Air EV is in essence the Wuling Air EV currently on sale in Indonesia and measures under 3 metres long.
The biggest change expected for the MG Air EV compared to the Wuling microcar is that MG is expected to source the batteries for the India-spec car from Tata AutoComp. The Wuling Air EV sold in international markets is offered with two battery pack options – 17.3kWh (200km range) and 26.7kWh (300km range). The MG Air EV will compete with Tata’s Tiago EV.
5) Citroen eC3
French carmaker Citroen only recently launched the C3 hatchback in India. At the time of the launch, Citroen had stated that it would be bringing the EV version of the C3 to the market in the near future.
Well, that time is nearly upon us as the all-electric C3 dubbed eC3. The Citroen eC3 will be powered by a 30.2kWh battery pack that is expected to offer a range of around 350km.
