The series is described as raw and real, and it's perfectly good viewing for newbies to the sport too.
A new series titled 100 Days to Indy premieres on Thursday, April 27. It promises to take IndyCar fans on a thrilling journey, treating viewers to a behind-the-scenes look at the drama-filled race series, as drivers and teams prepare for the iconic Indianapolis 500. The first episode will debut at 9 PM Eastern Time on The CW Network.
The new docuseries, produced by Vice Media Group and Penske Entertainment, will showcase the NTT IndyCar Series in a new light and showcase the hype leading up to the 107th running of the race. The six-part series is described as authentic by those involved. An array of well-known drivers will make an appearance in the series, including Pato O'Ward, David Malukas, and Scott McLaughlin.
“They showed everything as what it is,” commented O'Ward. “Nothing on there is fake. It's legit and raw. Like, yeah, IndyCar racing: That's what it is.”
Emmy Award-winning director Patrick Dimon is the man behind the motorsport docuseries and promises a truly riveting experience. After all, IndyCar racing is known for its dramatic moments, including crashes and near misses.
Dimon notes that the fast-paced action of IndyCar will be relayed to the viewer with little in the way of editing, providing an exciting and almost unfiltered experience: “I think that sometimes the beauty is not having too much time. You kind of just get in, you film, and you're like, 'Listen, this is the story, this is what we have, here are the results.'”
The crew had just six weeks to edit an episode before moving on to the next. “The story is unfolding as we are telling it versus sometimes, with these recap shows, you can go back, you can do pickup shoots, and you can kind of change the narrative,” added Dimon.
It's almost like Netflix's Drive To Survive F1 series, but for IndyCar racing. And with less falsified drama, it appears.
100 Days to Indy is the brainchild of Vice Media Group executive producer Brian Terry. He says the idea came from the fact that IndyCar is an American tradition that is loved by many. The docuseries wants to look at the sport in a different way by narrating the bigger story that surrounds the event. “We wanted to be more in season and take advantage of the momentum leading up to what is a huge tradition,” said Terry.
The first five episodes will document the run-up to the race, with the finale reserved for a reflective look at the legendary race after it's taken place. And it's not just for seasoned fans, either. The docuseries will explore the teams, racers, and even the traditions involved, making it ideal for newbies to get up to speed quickly.
The iconic race will take place on May 28. In the build-up to the event, Chevrolet has revealed a special Camaro SS Convertible. Just 50 examples exist, and they'll be offered for grabs after the Indy 500.
