Mini is going OG with the new Cooper's interior.
Mini has posted a teaser video showcasing the interior of the 2025 Cooper Hardtop, which will make its full debut later this year. While the interior may seem somewhat familiar due to the traditional circular display in the middle, everything you see here is new. And the central theme is undoubtedly minimalism.
For inspiration, the brand turned to the 1959 British Motor Corporation Mark I Mini. According to the British brand, the 1959 car, famously designed by Alec Issigonis, only had three main interior design elements; the steering wheel, a round center instrument cluster, and a toggle bar right beneath it.
Mini is returning to this layout for the all-new Cooper, ditching (almost) everything else to hopefully evoke the spirit of the original.
You can see how much has been removed if you put an image of the new interior and outgoing interior side-by-side. Mini removed the instrument cluster, climate control dials, and shifter.
The famous circular display is now an actual round screen and no longer a rectangular display and a mess of buttons arranged within a round plastic housing. For now, it looks too big and seems like it would be more at home around Flavor Flav's neck, but it's a unique selling point, and we're sure the Mini crowd will love it.
Below is an analog toggle bar with oversized chunky switches and a few obligatory physical buttons. The toggle on the left appears to be the gear selector, while the dial in the middle looks like it was designed to make it easier to scroll through the various menus on the round screen.
There's also a basic head-up display unit, if only so the driver doesn't need to glance right to check the speed.
Naturally, Mini couldn't put an all-new model out there without some shock-and-awe features, so the center display will include a raft of new digital creations to enhance the ownership experience. We can't wait to find out what these new features are, but we hope Mini's canine virtual assistant, Spike, made the cut.
Mini says the new dashboard provides an “immersive driving experience that includes light, sounds, animations, and projections.” The knitted dashboard also brings a touch of old-school to the interior but with a high-tech twist. It appears to have embedded LED lighting, which can be used to set the mood.
The lighting will change as the driver toggles through the Mini Experience Modes, which also adjusts the screen content color themes. As for interior colors and materials, we already know Mini will offer loads of customization options again.
We expect this new interior layout will also be used for all upcoming models, including the all-electric Aceman and the upcoming Countryman replacement.
