This 1,686-hp dragster was surgically transformed from supercharged racecar to turbocharged street car.
Jayden Gray of Gray's Racing, a tuning shop from Australia, has built a truly magnificent example of a classic Chevrolet Camaro. While not as intricate as Finale Speed's carbon fiber-bodied 1969 version, Gray's muscle car can hold its own with a pristine-looking black body trying to make a massive hood bulge seem somewhat normal with red stripes – which, along with beefy radial tires, hints at what it can do once it runs on the streets.
Featured by the YouTube channel Fullboost, this Camaro has a big block Chevy V8 under the hood, rebored to have a 9.5-liter displacement. It also has two massive turbos, stainless steel valves, aftermarket heads, and a custom crank, camshafts, connecting rods, and pistons. The beastly Camaro can produce a staggering 1,686 horsepower with all these modifications.
Jayden says he isn't running any intercoolers on his Camaro build. He can do this on this monstrous muscle car using e85 gasoline and relatively “low boost.” We can imagine this isn't particularly cheap to run, but the owner/builder said it's alright after plenty of fine-tuning.
Unsurprisingly, the giant turbos dominate the engine bay. Jayden claims that turbo lag isn't an issue for this build, and we're inclined to agree due to the engine's massive displacement.
Interestingly, the turbocharged beast was previously a supercharged dragster. According to Jayden, the rebuild was decided upon after it was converted into a street car a while back. The video takes viewers for a ride in the thing, where its V8's deep-toned rumble can be enjoyed. The Fullboost host noted that it's loud despite its 24-inch stainless mufflers. No kidding.

There are some caveats if you're running a V8 this powerful. For starters, Jayden has limited its revs to just 7,000 rpm. That's mainly due to keeping the stainless steel valves. The big fat 315 pro radials add much to the car's look and are also necessary to effectively maintain traction. It's also running a truck-like gearbox, which will be addressed shortly with something more suitable. After that, we doubt the car will go as low as 1,300 hp ever again, as seen in a below dyno result.
Jayden owns a tuning house and also a couple of other gorgeous cars. Among them, a small block first-gen 1967 Camaro SS. It contrasts the big bore monster and even gets a mirror-opposite black-stripe-and-red-body paint job, but you'll have to watch the video to see that.
