Witness every heavenly step from tearing cellophane to microscopic detailing in this half-hour video.
Why don’t my fumbling attempts at model building ever turn out like this?
It’s a question easily answered by watching this video, wherein a model-building expert carefully showcases their craft. The video shows every step to completing a 1/24-scale Tamiya Ferrari F40 model, from tearing the cellophane off the box, through body prep, painting and sanding, then assembly of the engine and interior. There’s about 1000 other steps along the way, of course, from the precise application of Ferrari badging, to the little corrections made for the tiniest errors.
Whether you’re a veteran modeling buff or a hopeless amateur like me, it’s worth a watch to pick up a few tips, or simply just to revel in the meticulous craft of this builder. Even car nerds with only a passing interest in modeling should give this a watch; What’s striking is how much of this miniature assembly process mirrors the total restoration of an actual car, how you might strip a vehicle down to its bare components, refinish and reassemble them.
By the end of the video, you’ll feel an odd, vicarious sense of accomplishment, something akin to completing an actual Ferrari restoration. Just, you know, smaller.
