Gran Turismo's greatest threat is nearly here.
Good news, gamers: Turn 10 Studios has shared more information about the forthcoming Forza Motorsport video game, the latest in a long line of racing games that enjoy popularity worldwide.
There's plenty to look forward to, with the creators referring to it as the “most technically advanced racing game ever made.” Gabe Garcia, Vehicle Art Director for the series, notes players will be able to experience more than 500 cars at launch. Based on the in-game footage shown in the video below, there's something for everyone, with the BMW M3 (E30), Porsche Mission R electric racer, and an array of muscle cars all forming part of the extensive lineup.
100 of these cars are new to the series, with Garcia claiming some are “the most modern racecars we've ever featured on our roster.”

Forza has always allowed players to customize their rides, and the latest version is no different. A total of 800 unique upgrades will be offered. It's no good offering an array of cars and modification options if they're no good to drive, though.
To ensure you'll be glued to your Xbox for hours, Turn 10 studios has gone above and beyond with Forza Motorsport's physics model. “The advancements are greater than Forza Motorsport 5, 6, and 7 combined. This makes our driving experience more fun and rewarding in the way the car accelerates, corners and brakes.”
While the series has always been loved by gamers, criticisms have been leveled at the sometimes unrealistic engine sounds and exhaust notes. Project Audio Director Chase Combs promises the latest installment is “the best-sounding Forza Motorsport ever.”
To deliver an authentic feel and sound, the team has completely rebuilt each audio system to create an “immersive soundscape.”
Fitting a turbocharger or new exhaust system will also change the sound of your vehicle, as it would in real life. This means that every car has several different sounds it can make based on the chosen upgrade parts.
Finer details like tire and suspension noises have also been refined to heighten the sense of realism. Even dirt build-up will layer and accumulate in a realistic manner, and the clouds overhead will change over time.
Those familiar with the series will be pleased to know that at least 20 past environments have been retained, but to elevate the game that bit more, five new locations have been added too, including the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in South Africa, once a forerunner to host a 2023 Formula 1 event.
Those looking for a challenge and a bit of unpredictability will be delighted by the fully dynamic weather and time of day features.
For the first time in a Forza Motorsport game, the “constantly evolving race experience will ensure “no two laps will ever look the same.” Rubbering, moisture build-up, track temperatures, and other changing conditions will be perceptible in the handling of your car.
The graphics are, quite simply, extraordinary, and have been achieved thanks to the magic of 4K and ray tracing. This is said to create “true to life reflections” on all smooth mirror and flat glass surfaces. This adds to the realism of the latest iteration, which is described as a “generational leap ahead.”
Gaming purists will be pleased to know the single-player career mode is focused on car-building. An online mode will, of course, also be available. It's clear to see that, with Forza Motorsport, Turn 10 is aiming to unseat Gran Turismo from the throne. Will it succeed? Only time will tell.
Turn 10 hasn't set an exact date but has said the game will launch in Spring 2023, so the wait is nearly over.
