All it needs now is a buyer who'll make it a part of a bonkers car build.
Most older cars, and by extension their engines, often come with unique stories, such as the million-dollar Dodge Challenger called the Black Ghost. A newer but equally unique story also comes from Dodge. This time around, it's a 1996 8.0-liter V10 Viper factory crate engine currently for sale on Bring-A-Trailer.
This particular Dodge Viper engine is special because its existence was born of a funny mistake. According to its last owner, a Dodge dealership employee mixed up a singular digit in his parts order, and instead of receiving red touch-up paint to fix a customer's car, he got an entire Viper crate engine.
The issue was, the engine had no car to go into. As such, it sat around on a crate with dollys for more than two decades. The seller says he acquired it in 2021 after it changed hands several times. None of its previous owners had the opportunity to install it.
Besides being a brand-new Dodge V10 in mint condition due to climate-controlled storage, it has all the accessory pieces ready to go, including a clutch, a starter motor, ignition components, serpentine belts, an idler pulley, an alternator, and power-steering pump.

Needless to say, all the V10 mill now needs is an inspired car builder with a creative mind. One idea we can think of is a reverse twin to the Hellcat-powered Viper we saw last year; maybe it's time someone makes a Dodge Challenger with a Viper V10 engine.
Or if you have the know-how, maybe you can stuff this beefcake of an engine into a Miata just like the one with an off-road setup and a Ford V8. If you want this Viper V10, the auction ends in six days (July 11), and its current bid is $6,000 at the time of this writing.
