It comes with a mini Thomas Magnum and his pals.
Toy maker Playmobil will launch a pint-sized version of one of the most famous Ferraris ever to grace the TV screen. Specifically, it's a recreation of the Ferrari 308 GTSi Quattrovalvole known as “Robin 1,” the faithful steed of Thomas Magnum (played by Tom Selleck) from the hit 1980s TV show Magnum P.I.
The kit features the Ferrari 308 in all its 1980s glory. It isn't a one-to-one recreation, mind you, but the toy gets an opening engine cover, a removable targa top, and a pair of pop-up headlamps that will light up at a press of a button.

Judging by the three-inch size of the Hawaiian shirt-clad Tom Selleck figure that comes with the car, it appears to have good proportions and scale, although it's not officially modeled to scale. Other goodies included in the toy kit are figures of Magnum's buddies: Rick, Higgins, and TC.
If you're unfamiliar with the Ferrari 308, think of it as the granddaddy of the Ferrari F8. The one from the early episodes of the TV show was a 308 GTS which used a 237-horsepower 2.9-liter V8. The show replaced the car with a newer but less powerful 237-hp 308 GTSi Quattrovalvole (QV) for the later episodes.
In the show, Magnum and his friends used the zippy red Ferrari to drive around Oahu, Hawaii, to investigate various crimes and solve cases. It's equivalent to Batman's Batmobile but without all the gadgets, the turbine engine, and the edginess.

Being a Playmobil toy, it's not as fancy as Amalgam models or as complex as high-end Lego Technic car sets. But then again, we're sure it can withstand the rigors of play or years of being displayed on top of a cabinet. After all, the company says they are made to last due to being made out of high-quality, durable plastic.
The Magnum PI playset will be released this August. The Germany-based company is already accepting pre-orders for the toy for $79.99.
