Automobili Pininfarina is introducing a new and highly limited edition of its all-electric hypercar, called the Battista Edizione Nino Farina. The car is named after Giuseppe Antonio Farina, more commonly known as Nino. As Automobili Pininfarina said in the teaser campaign, it would be a family affair.
Nino was the nephew of Battista 'Pinin' Farina, who started the design company, which eventually branched out and form the manufacturer behind the glorious Battista, which held the record for the fastest accelerating car before the Rimac Nevera rained on its parade.
Only five Battista Edizione Nino Farinas will be made, and the hypercar will make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, driven by former F1 driver Nick Heidfeld. The latter is a dynamic advisor to Automobili Pininfarina, which seems a bit redundant given the CEO's impressive automotive CV.
Nino Farina was the world's first-ever Formula 1 champion in 1950. The season was much shorter back then, and Pinin only had to win the British, Swiss, and Italian Grands Prix to win the entire season. In 1951, he also won the Goodwood Trophy, which also happened to be a non-championship F1 race.
“This exclusive model pays homage to Nino Farina’s courageous and fearless persona and his incredible achievements in motorsport. It is our tribute to a family dynasty – to the man who will forever be known as the first driver ever to be crowned a Formula One World Champion and to our founder, the man responsible for igniting his passion for racing,” said Dave Amantea, Chief Design Officer, Automobili Pininfarina. “Each vehicle is a tribute to Nino’s unrivaled history, and each one represents a unique moment in his life, which was truly remarkable. “
The vehicle is finished in Rosso Nino, with a unique livery on the lower body. The livery is finished in Bianco Sestriere and Iconica Blu, also used for the bespoke pinstripe on the door mirrors and underside of the rear wing. The livery also includes a laurel wreath and the number “01” in Bianco Sestriere. There are more subtle Nino references, too. The engraved headlights are finished in brushed aluminum anodized in black, and on the driver's side, you'll note Nino Farina's signature on the side wing.
Automobili Pininfarina also added the Furiosa Pack, which includes a carbon fiber front splitter, side blades, and rear diffuser, all sporting a Bianco Sestriere pinstripe. A Carbon Accent Package is also available, which includes these elements in exposed carbon fiber. The Exterior Jewellery Pack adds brushed aluminum, anodized in black.
Other black details include the brake calipers and center lock rings, which contrast beautifully with the 10-spoke forged aluminum Glorioso alloy wheels finished in Satin Gold.
On the inside, the Nino has a bespoke two-tone interior. The driver's seat is finished in black leather, while the passenger gets beige and black Alcantara. Both seats get custom quilting and “Nino Farina” embroidered into the headrest. The driver's seat is a bit more special, boasting an embroidered laurel wreath and a ’01’ graphic in gold. The passenger has to make do with the Pininfarina logo.
The seatbelts are finished in Iconica Blu, while the steering wheel is finished in black Alcantara with exposed carbon fiber bits. The 12 o’clock ring is brushed aluminum anodized in red. Nino Farina's signature can be found on the steering wheel plate, chassis plate, and passenger door plate, which is unique to each vehicle.
Automobili Pininfarina kept everything else the same, which is perfectly fine. The 1,877 horsepower hypercar has four electric motors and was the quickest road-legal production car for a few months. It will reach 60 mph in less than two seconds, but the quarter-mile time of 8.55 seconds impresses most. According to the EPA, it can do 300 miles between recharges.
Each Battista ships standard with four amazing-sounding driving modes, including Calma, Pura, Energica, Furiosa, and Carattere.
Automobili Pininfarina didn't provide a price, but the standard car costs roughly $2.25 million. In this league, we're not talking about a customer choosing between a Battista, Nevera, or the upcoming Porsche all-electric hypercar. In this prestigious company, a person already has all three orders locked in.
