The AIM EV Sport 01 electric sports coupe makes 483 horsepower exclusively sent to the rear wheels.
Nagoya-based engineering firm AIM will join the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed to showcase the AIM EV Sport 01 – a lightweight electric sports coupe. While the nameplate's new, only revealed last April, the man behind its design should ring many bells: Shiro Nakamura.
Nakamura-san was Nissan's Chief Designer brought in by Carlos Ghosn in 1999. As the company's senior vice president and chief creative officer since 2006, several iconic Nissan cars were penned under his supervision, like the Nissan GT-R, 370Z (Fairlady Z in Japan), Cube, Leaf, and Juke. He's also responsible for the design of the Isuzu VehiCROSS, made before his stint at Nissan.
After Nakamura-san retired from Nissan in 2017, he moved on to lead an independent company called SN Design Platform, which designed the AIM EV Sport 01 for the Japanese engineering firm.

Design-wise, the AIM EV Sport 01 carries some nice curves all over, with almost no edges except for the rear end. It has a multi-tubular aluminum frame with a double-wishbone front and rear suspension system flanked by 20-inch wheels. The carbon fiber tub is housed within body panels made from a carbon fiber laminate structure.
“We learned from the spirit of the great sports cars of the past, helped by the RWD configuration and layout. I wanted to express dynamism with sophisticated elegance through a simple, clean design. The EV Sport 01 has minimal form language and avoids exaggerated and complicated surfaces, reminiscent of the great European and Japanese sports cars of the 1960s. Given that inspiration, it is particularly fitting we can demonstrate our car at Goodwood,” said Nakamura-san.

The AIM EV Sport 01 is a compact two-seat electric sports car currently undergoing dynamic testing and is bound to make a grand debut at the renowned Goodwood Hillclimb. Weighing only 3,142 pounds, the lightweight coupe has two liquid-cooled, high-performance electric motors – one on each rear wheel – reaching a maximum speed of 10,000 rpm.
Combined, the two motors have an output of 483 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque. The setup draws power from an 81 kWh lithium battery configured in four packs.
With EVs such as the AIM EV Sport 01 appearing, this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed is shaping up to be a motoring event for various powertrain types. BMW will bring a range of hydrogen-powered models, while Porsche has promised a host of 911s powered by synthetic fuel.
