When you've built something as crazy as the Mono, where do you go from there?
Briggs Automotive Company, better known as BAC, has announced that it will join the festivities at Monterey Car Week for the first time ever this year, and it will be making a splash by holding the global debut of a new offering at the event, specifically on August 17.
This comes after the Liverpudlian automaker last month announced its plans to expand into the North American market with three new locations, bringing the possibility of experiencing the Mono single-seater – a car that makes a Mazda MX-5 look fat – to many more Americans.
So what is BAC cooking up? Based on the only slightly revealing teaser image provided (seen below), it appears that the new car could be a lot more conventional than the Mono.

If the first of the above images depicts the rear end of a car with its license plate, then this rear end seems to be adopting a full-width LED light bar, like a Porsche 911. The shape of the rear end also appears to be slightly reminiscent of that of the Bugatti Chiron (as far as we can tell, anyway – the distortion is doing a fine job of obscuring true forms).
Either way, we'd bet that BAC is readying something that can be enjoyed by more than one individual at a time and possibly even fitting its new creation with a roof. At the beginning of the year, the British automaker hired ex-McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt as its new chairman, and we suspect the man has steered the company toward a more universally appealing concept.

As for what will power the new car, it's anyone's guess. The original BAC Mono was powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.3-liter engine before switching to a turbocharged motor of the same capacity, and the firm is also exploring hydrogen power.
Basically, BAC – having only produced one model to date – does not have a long history from which we can glean powertrain trends; the automaker could go in any direction.
Of course, all of this speculation could be misplaced, as it would not be a surprise to see BAC simply reveal a new version of its existing car. The Mono R was well-received, and we suspect another, even more hardcore version could be just as popular.
We'll find out all the juicy details next month.
