Classic good looks, modern luxuries, and a thumping great 5.0-liter Coyote V8 under the hood. What's not to like?
Velocity Modern Classics (VMC) has revealed its latest restomod project based on a classic Ford Mustang fastback, and, simply put, it's wonderful.
The Florida-based experts have restored this gorgeous 1967/1968 Mustang back to its former glory. While the styling remains untouched, the same can't be said of the powertrain and underpinnings. Instead of fitting this 'Stang with an electric drivetrain, as is the fashion these days, VMC has gone for the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 found in the S550 Mustang GT.
As a result, the Fastback now produces 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission or, if you prefer, a six-speed manual gearbox. Additionally, the vehicle has been fitted with custom headers, along with a stainless steel exhaust and Borla mufflers for an even fruitier exhaust note.

Those power figures and the Mustang's original chassis and suspension wouldn't make for the greatest bedfellows. For greater control and dynamism, VMC's Fastback rides on a new Mustang SPEC chassis from the Roadster Shop, and there's new rack-and-pinion power-assisted steering, too.
You'll find new SPEC independent front suspension, along with front sway bars. Four-link rear suspension should keep the Mustang's pretty rump planted firmly, while adjustable Fox coilovers (front and rear) further enhance handling.
Finishing off the handling improvements are the Baer four-piston calipers and a Bosch Electric iBooster. Those delightfully retro 17-inch aluminum wheels are wrapped in 255/45 ZR 17 Continental Extreme Contact Sport tires.

To preserve the original beauty of the fastback, VMC hasn't messed with the body besides to modernize the paint. That rich, liquid-like finish comes courtesy of the BASF Glasurit paint, seen here in a sophisticated dark blue. We can also see the optional racing stripes here, which are a subtle addition and uplift the overall look.
Some of the exterior revisions serve a practical purpose. The vented hood, for example, helps manage the engine temperature. Chrome bumpers and detailing work beautifully with the dark paintwork, but we're sure it will look just as good with any color. VMC has also added LED headlights and taillights for a more modern look. Finally, the hood hinges and glass and weather seals have been replaced by entirely new items from the experts at Ringbrothers.

Step inside, and you'll find the cabin has been filled with plush materials. The front bucket seats are supplemented by a rear bench, which can be utilized for additional storage or shorter trips. Leather is, of course, standard, but buyers can choose to upgrade to a premium hide option and can even specify heated and ventilated seats. The roof lining is trimmed in soft Alcantara.
Air-conditioning and a Dynamat sound system are nice-to-haves. Both have been incorporated into the cabin without taking away from the old-school charm, and the USB ports sited behind the cup holders are another welcome touch. Look through the tasteful wood steering wheel, and you'll notice the Dakota Digital gauges. VMC also offers billet interior and exterior packages to complement the existing brushed metal accents in the cabin.

If you want even more from your VMC Mustang Fastback, there's a Street Series upgrade that introduces a carbon fiber driveshaft, 18-inch Forgeline wheels, and two-way adjustable Fox coilovers. This model also receives racing stripes as standard, along with several other exterior and interior upgrades.
Interested? The standard model retails for $299,900, and the Street Series comes in at a hefty $369,900. If that's a trifle too steep for your tastes, perhaps the company's restomodded F-100 truck for $279,900 is slightly more palatable. This Mustang is undeniably pricey, but you're sure to have a one-of-a-kind motorcar that will turn heads wherever it goes.
