And a remarkable 650 lb-ft of torque.
Texas-based aftermarket tuner Hennessey Performance Engineering has unveiled its take on the S650 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, equipping the sporty pony car with a supercharger that takes grunt to 850 horsepower. The new creation has been dubbed the H850 and boasts a high-flow induction system, bigger fuel injectors, and an upgraded fuel pump. Along with the aforementioned supercharger and an HPE software upgrade, the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 now makes 850 hp with 650 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 70% over the stock 500 hp, and this is available whether your Dark Horse was ordered with the 10-speed automatic or the Tremec six-speed manual.

The H850 flagship Mustang build is complemented by a new splitter made of carbon fiber on the front bumper, along with new side skirts and a new rear wing made of the same stuff. Forged aluminum wheels are also added, along with unique 'Heritage' graphics, available as an added option. Without the graphics, fender badges and a new script on the trunk indicate that this is no ordinary Mustang. Inside, the head restraints of the seats feature embroidery identifying the tuner, but we suspect accessories to further uplift the cabin may be in development. Then again, the design of the Dark Horse is remarkable, with Recaro seats and a titanium shift knob adding hitherto unseen levels of sportiness.

As usual, Hennessey includes a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty, but pricing has not yet been announced. Production is expected to begin next quarter, but no delivery date has been provided either.
That aside, it's highly impressive that Hennessey has already unlocked at least some of the S650 Mustang's potential. Saleen, which has a very close relationship with Ford, is yet to make its 800-hp S650 a reality. That Hennessey has beaten Saleen to the punch is remarkable, especially in light of the fact that the S650 was intentionally made difficult to safely tune.
But if Hennessey can do it, we're sure other tuners will soon follow suit. Expect to see 1,000-hp S650 Mustang builds before the end of the year.
