BMW has had to increase production volume for the desirable wagon.
BMW M Boss Frank van Meel has confirmed that BMW has increased the production capacity of the M3 Touring to meet strong demand in Europe.
Speaking to BimmerToday, van Meel said the practical performance car is proving very popular with customers. As such, the automaker has responded by building more units, but wait times are getting longer despite this. BMW M's CEO added that there's no quantity limit on the M3 Touring.
“I would say if you want one, order it right away. The demand is enormous [and] it even surprised us […] I think it's a super cool car and a good addition to the M family, but I have to say that demand is [huge], and that's why we've adjusted our production volumes to higher quantities,” said van Meel.

Sadly, enthusiasts in the United States won't benefit from this increased production capacity. For some reason, BMW has chosen not to sell the M3 Touring locally, much to the chagrin of many. But there is a silver lining: the larger M5 Touring has a strong chance of coming to America, where it will battle with the Audi RS6.
Unlike its baby brother, the larger Bimmer wagon will be powered by an electrified engine, rumored to be the same 738-horsepower 4.4-liter V8 found in the polarizing XM SUV. If that's the case, we can forgive BMW for not bringing the M3 Touring to our shores.
Then again, both Audi and Mercedes chose not to import the RS4 Avant and C63 Estate, which suggests there's no market for small and expensive performance wagons.

That's not to say we will never see an M3 Touring in the USA. Swiss tuning company Dahler has decided to import an example into the States to stir up excitement around its products. The car will be shown at various exhibitions, allowing Americans to get up close and personal with this delectable forbidden fruit.
With the introduction of the M3 CS, we may see the wagon get the same hardcore treatment as its sedan sibling. Thanks to 543 horsepower, the sporty four-door can hit 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and enjoys model-specific revisions. It would be great to see BMW apply the same changes to the Touring. If this were to happen, production would likely be as limited as the M3 CS Sedan, of which BMW only plans to make around 2,000 examples.
