Here's where you'll get to see the most eye candy in Florida this weekend.
The 16th annual Boca Raton Concours d'Elegance takes place this weekend, with the action already kicking off today, 24 February 2023. It's a fantastic opportunity for Floridians and other Americans to enjoy sublime automotive works of art and rub shoulders with some celebrities.
This year's celebrities include Dale Earnhardt Jr. (no introduction needed), Mary Barra (Chief Executive Officer of General Motors), and Mindy Holman, Chair of Holman Enterprises. All of them will be honored with the Automotive Lifetime Achievement Award. David Spade is not getting an automotive achievement award, but he will be the MC of Saturday night's “Grand Gala,” where theaforementioned automotive celebrities will receive their awards.
Today's events are strictly for VIPs, and the same goes for Saturday evening when Earnheart Jr., Barra, and Holman will receive their awards. If you're a member of Joe Public, you can join in the action on Sunday.
The Concours d'Elegance takes place on Sunday, 26 February, and will be hosted by the Grand Marshal, Wayne Carini, who knows his way around a Concours, having previously won classes at various events. You might know him as the host of TV's Chasing Classic Cars. Attendees will enjoy staring at over 200 restored cars and motorcycles from every period.
Boca Raton Concours d'Elegance always pays homage to a specific marque, and this year it's celebrating pre-war Cadillac. It will also honor two legends turning 70 this year; the Chevrolet Corvette and Cadillac Eldorado.
The Eldorado was the pinnacle of American luxury and Cadillac's halo car. Soon the all-new Cadillac Celestiq will take over, and even though the latter is an EV, the two vehicles have something in common. The 1959 Eldorado Brougham was the last car to wear the iconic Cadillac Goddess, which is making a comeback on the Celestiq.
This year's Automobile Collector of the Year, Jack Boyd Smith Jr., is bringing a 1937 Cord 812 Phaeton Convertible originally owned by Amelia Earhart, a 1933 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron, and a few of his other exclusive machines.
The Restoration Company of the Year, LaVine Restorations, will likely bring some of its best work. You can see a few examples in the image block below.
Mercedes-Benz and AutoNation present this year’s event, and all proceeds will go toward the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County. Tickets range from $50 to ogle some cars on Sunday to $10,000 to attend the awards ceremony on Saturday night.
If AutoNation successfully negotiates talks with Alpine, perhaps one of these future events could pay tribute to iconic French Rally cars.
