WeBuyCars (WBC) and the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) have entered into a “groundbreaking” public-private partnership intended to improve vehicle registration and change of ownership processes in South Africa, announced transport minister Sindisiwe Chikunga.
The initiative will officially be launched on 22 August at the WBC Dome in Randburg, Gauteng, at which the minister will also share the progress made with the enhancement of online services on its eNatis platform, as well as additional services that will be offered to WBC and future business partners.
“This partnership is a first of its kind and the RTMC intends it to be the first of many as it continues to seek solutions to make transacting on the Natis system seamless for both members of the public and business stakeholders,” said minister Chikunga.

Chikunga will only reveal the full workings of the RTMC’s new partnership with WBC at the launch of the initiative, at present, she said it will “usher in a secure, paperless, business-to-business environment to allow the motor vehicle trading and financing sector to transact seamlessly on the Natis system.”
The RTMC has already piloted the solution with WBC to test its efficiency and is happy with the results, with the system now ready for full implementation, according to the minister.
Prices for the vehicle registration and change of ownership applications have similarly not been announced, therefore, it’s unclear whether WBC will put its own fee on top of that charged by the Department of Transport (DoT).
In May, the DoT corrected the schedule of service fees for these services when accessed through the eNatis system that has been in effect since January 2022, with the headline changes as follows:
- Online application, issuing, and delivery of a registration certificate – From R530 to R330
- Online notification of change of ownership of a motor vehicle by current title holder – From R530 to R330
This signifies a reduction of R200, or 38%, for both payments.
