The Skoda Superb has earned immense popularity and a loyal customer base in India’s automotive landscape. Renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship, stylish aesthetics, and top-notch performance, the Skoda Superb has garnered a reputation as a luxury sedan that surpasses expectations.
It has come to the limelight that Skoda recently discontinued the Superb in the Indian market. The decision was made due to low sales and the car not meeting the new RDE regulations set by the Indian government.
Skoda has officially removed the Superb from its website, confirming its discontinuation. However, reports suggest that the model may come back in the future. It is speculated that Skoda could reintroduce the Superb in India with updated designs, features and in compliance with the emission regulations.
Superb has a significant place in the Indian auto landscape. The Superb was introduced as the brand’s flagship sedan in 2004 and gained immense popularity among luxury car enthusiasts with in no time.
The luxury sedan had a perfect blend of design, tech, performance, and practicality, making it stand out from its competitors. The spacious interiors and the competitive pricing made the Superb a perfect choice for Indian consumers.
The car was consistently upgraded to cope with the evolving demands of Indian consumers. Changes were made in the overall design, interiors were upgraded with top quality materials, and hosted many cutting edge tech.
The Superb was offered in two variants, SportLine and L&K. Both house a 2-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission. This engine produces 190bhp and 320Nm of torque.
Inside, the Superb had an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SmartLink, a panoramic sunroof, bi-xenon headlamps, ambient interior lighting, gesture-controlled boot lid, three-zone climate control, 12-way electric adjust driver seat, a Canton sound system, and driver fatigue detection system.
Additionally, it boasted advanced safety features, enhancing its appeal to safety-conscious buyers. The luxury sedan has eight airbags and electronic stability control, among other features. Skoda discontinued the Octavia from its lineup in April, citing the updated BS6 phase 2 emission regulations.
Thoughts About The Discontinuation Of Skoda Superb
Even though Skoda has discontinued Octavia and Superb, this might not be the end for the once-popular sedans. There is a higher possibility of relaunching these models with an updated engine that complies with the latest emission norms.
As previously mentioned, the primary reason for discontinuation is the new BS-VI phase RDE regulation. According to this emission regulation set by the Indian government, the vehicles must comply with stricter limits for pollutant emissions in real life.
The implementation of BS VI phase RDE norms is to bridge the gap between emission tests conducted in laboratories and the actual emissions produced on the road. By doing so, these norms reduce air pollution and enhance the overall air quality across the country.
