Skoda had already teased the new-gen Kodiaq and Superb last week and now Skoda India has confirmed that they are working on bringing the Skoda Superb sedan back to India. The new model will be made available in India before the end of 2023.
While the Kodiaq has been enjoying good sales numbers in India with over 1,000 units sold last year, the Superb was discontinued from the country due to Skoda not being willing to make the car BS6 Phase 2 compliant. The upcoming Superb will be the fourth generation of the sedan and will make its global debut in the coming months.
The new Superb is expected to use an enhanced version of the MQB design like the previous ICE-powered iteration but with a larger emphasis on electrification. Skoda has officially stated that the new model will be available with fuel-efficient petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains, as well as technology advancements. The Skoda Superb will be manufactured in Bratislava, Slovakia.
From the images teased last week, we expect the car to have conventional proportions but sharper surfacing, as shown by the character lines on the profile that lead to the noticeable shoulders. In the images teased by Skoda, not much can be made out save for the headlights. It seems to have an L-shaped LED headlamp signature and but the smaller light below it featured on the Kodiaq silhouette appears to be missing.
Previous-gen Skoda Superb
The Skoda Superb that bowed out of India in 2022 used a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol putting out 190PS and 320 Nm and paired to a seven-speed DCT gearbox.
The 2024 Skoda Super will be introduced in India towards the climax of 2023 and will renew its rivalry in the premium sedan segment. Expect the car to be priced between Rs 35 lakh and Rs 40 lakh.
