The new Haval H6 is on sale in South Africa, and looks a serious competitor in the country’s hottest vehicle segment.
The range-topping Haval H6 Super Luxury – coming in at R514,900 – punches above its weight by offering an attractive design, an uncompromised set of features, and a powerful engine.
Haval also said it brings a “new generation of safety”, as it’s filled with modern assist features and built from high-strength steel.
Luxurious
The H6 Super Luxury lives up to its name by offering the highest level of features and capabilities in the range.
It gets an artificial leather upholstery, a stepped dash design, and six-way electrically-adjustable and heated front seats.
The interior design was kept simple, with only the 12.3-inch infotainment display and 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster pulling your attention.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, and media plays through 10 speakers. The SUV will also adjust the volume of your media depending on how fast you are driving.
The driver’s display is personalisable, too, with a selection of screens and menus that can be navigated through with the multifunction steering wheel.
A wireless phone charging pad is then hidden in front of the leather-wrapped centre console lid, with an electroplated rotary knob replacing the conventional gear shift lever.
Due to its top-of-the-line status, the Super Luxury is further fitted with a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, an automatic tailgate, automatic LED headlamps with daytime running lights, rain-sensing wipers, a heads-up-display, and keyless entry and start.
This is in addition to integrated roof rails and a rear cargo capacity of 600 litres with all five seats up.
Safety
The new Haval H6 does not have any official crash test ratings, but the company said it brings a “new generation of safety”.
This model comes with all the bells and whistles, which are headlined by a 360-degree camera with panoramic view, an intelligent adaptive cruise control system, and lane assist.
The latter provides lane departure alert, lane keep and change assist, and lane centre keeping.
It also has automatic emergency braking and pre-collision warning, all-round parking sensors, traffic sign recognition, blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, six airbags, and driver fatigue alert.
Performance
The new Haval H6 range is powered by a 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine that produces 150kW and 320Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
The Super Luxury receives a four-wheel-drive powertrain – which adds sand and off-road drive modes – along with being the only option in the range that sits on 19-inch “Vortex” alloy wheels.
This setup achieves a combined fuel consumption of 10.1l/100km.
All-terrain capabilities are then assured by engineering programmes – including an anti-roll system, cornering brake control with brake assist, hill descent and launch assist, and ABS with traction control.
Price
The Haval H6 2.0T 4WD Super Luxury has a South African price of R514,900.
This includes a 5-year/100,000km warranty and a 5-year/60,000km service plan.
