The cheapest Haval that you can currently find on the market is the Haval Jolion 1.5T City, which has a starting price of R342,950.
Having made its debut last year, the Jolion has become a consistent entry in the country’s best-performing crossovers, selling hundreds of units each month.
The popular crossover has made quite a splash in South Africa and we took a closer look at it to find out why.
What you get
Haval has provided the Jolion with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine generating a total of 105kW and 210Nm, making the mini-SUV one of the more powerful options in its class.
On the entry-level City, this powertrain is connected to the front wheels using a six-speed automatic gearbox, returning a not-amazing fuel consumption figure of 7.5l/100km on a combined cycle.
While Haval has not officially revealed the car’s performance statistics, third parties have listed the Jolion with a top speed of 185km/h and a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 9.8 seconds.
Switching over to its features, the entry-level Jolion sports daytime running lights, electronically-adjustable side mirrors, follow-me-home headlamps, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the crossover is fitted with fabric upholstery, keyless entry and push-button start, a 3.5-inch colour instrument cluster, and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
Sound is further played through a total of four speakers which are capable of speed-sensitive volume adjustment.
Building on this, the Jolion gets cruise control, front and rear USB ports, a 12V power socket, and manual air conditioning.
Its boot also has enough space to accommodate 337 litres of luggage, which increases to 1,133 litres when the rear seats are folded.
Safety features, meanwhile, consist of hill assist, tyre pressure monitoring, rear parking sensors, driver fatigue monitoring, traction control, electronic stability control, and a total of four airbags.
Each Haval Jolion is sold with a 5-year/100,000km warranty and a 5-year/60,000km service plan.
