An extra 20kW and 50Nm has been pulled from the Jolion’s 1.5-litre engine in the new S model
Haval’s Jolion line-up recently received another entry in the form of the Jolion S, which bridges the gap between the regular petrol-powered Jolion and the Jolion Hybrid on the performance front.
Priced from $36,990 drive-away, Haval will be looking to take on the likes of the Mazda CX-30, the Toyota Corolla Cross and the Honda HR-V with this Jolion S, which sits as the penultimate variant of its five-strong range.
This drive-away price represents a $3000 increase from the Jolion Ultra, but is still $4000 more affordable than the Jolion Ultra Hybrid.
The Jolion S wears a blacked-out aesthetic
Powered by the same 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine as the standard Jolion, the S ups the ante with an extra 20kW and 50Nm thrown into the mix. All up, this means that what’s ostensibly the sporty petrol version in range offers 130kW and 270Nm in total.
Though this is a reasonably significant amount of extra grunt over the regular Jolion, the S still doesn’t match the 139kW/375Nm offered by the Jolion Ultra Hybrid.
Power is sent exclusively to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and although performance figures haven’t been provided, we can expect to see an improvement over the 10.7-second 0-100km prowess of the Jolion Ultra.
The interior is shared with the range-topping Haval Jolion Ultra Hybrid
At 7.5L/100km, fuel economy has also reportedly been improved with the S, as the regular Jolion consumes an extra 0.6L/100km on average.
Other changes under the Jolion S skin include the new multi-link rear suspension system that has replaced the torsion beam found in all other current Jolion models.
As for exterior changes, the S wears blacked-out alloy wheels, mirrors, roof rails, and lower-slung front and rear fascias.

Haval’s full active safety suite is also standard on the Jolion S, which includes AEB, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.
The Jolion S also falls under GWM’s seven year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, and can be had with a five-year capped price servicing plan.
