TopAuto reader Megan bought a Suzuki Swift – fitted with a factory spoiler and aftermarket rims – as her first car, and she would not trade it for the world.
Megan tells us more about her five years of Suzuki Swift ownership, below.
Which model do you own?
I own a 2014 Suzuki Swift that has done 36,000km.
When did you get the car?
I purchased the car second hand in 2016 after it had done 13,000km.
What are your three favourite things about the car?
I love the size of it – it has a compact design, but is not too small.
The interior is surprisingly spacious for its size and can comfortably seat four people.
The design of the car is great, too, and I love the spec of mine with the grey colouring, factory-fitted spoiler, and aftermarket rims.
Which three things do you like least about the car?
There is a lack of power, which results in me struggling to overtake and to maintain speed on uphills.
The boot is small and although it is adequate for daily use, it struggles when having to take a big load – such as multiple suitcases.
My Swift lacks an infotainment system and Bluetooth capabilities, too, but it does allow for USB connectivity.
What is it like to drive your car every day?
It provides a good everyday ride, as its size allows for easy manoeuvrability.
The Swift is also light on fuel, as it only uses 5.6l/100km.
What is the hardest journey you have done with your car?
I haven’t done any hard journeys, but the most frustrating one would be the 20-minute drive back home from Wits University that turned into three hours.
This was due to heavy rain, which resulted in people stopping under bridges on the highway.
The rain also caused a truck to lose control and go partially off the road, where it got stuck in mud and blocked the street.
Although the journey was very frustrating, my car handled the weather well and it was a comfortable place to be.
Would you recommend your car to friends and family?
Yes, absolutely. It is a great car for everyday use with sufficient features and ample interior space – although I would mention the lack of power as a factor to consider.
