We headed out to Tokyo Japan with Suzuki South Africa to check out what the brand is up to. We saw the new Swift Concept ,fully electric EVX concept car and some other mobility solutions Suzuki has in the pipeline.
Welcome to Tokyo, Japan!
Suzuki is becoming a big player in the South African market with their dependable, robust, fuel-efficient and fun vehicles. Now, when the opportunity to go visit Suzuki’s home country came up, we relished in the moment and said yes without any hesitation. The setup? Japan Mobility Show. In a nutshell, this expo looks at the future of not only automobiles and motorcycles but mobility solutions as a whole, along with different services and technologies. You can read many of our Suzuki reviews and other content here
What is Suzuki up to?
Suzuki presented a range of vehicles and mobility solutions, with their focus being to create a carbon-neutral future. The vehicles and mobility solutions presented here are powered by different forms of energy, from fossil fuels to combined methane gas and electricity. To quote, “For the world, passion to create a new answer.” Suzuki here has presented many answers.
Swift Concept
South Africans are no strangers to the Suzuki Swift (Even this scribe owns one.). The compact hatchback has proved itself to be a perky vehicle with heaps of character. With the current generation Swift, more emphasis was placed on the vehicle being lightweight with the HEARTECT platform while still maintaining the agility the Swift is known for. The Swift Concept, in essence, still carries on with this motif but further improves on the formula of the current generation Swift. While we don’t have details on the drivetrain, we have been assured that there will be a carbon-efficient engine. You can read our reviews on the current generation Swift here to get an ide of the Swift’s current state.
EVX and Light Wagon Concepts
The EVX is going to be Suzuki’s full EV vehicle. Dimensions are smaller than the Grand Vitara, but it presents as a compact SUV. The concept style of the vehicle is broad and rugged with futuristic design cues, as you’d tend to expect with EVs, like radical LED lights and large digital displays in the cabin.
The Light Wagon Concept, in contrast to the EVX, is more gentle and rounded with an Urban Runabout look to it. Unfortunately, we don’t have details on the drivetrains for these vehicles, but they are fascinating to behold.
Compressed Biomethane Gas Vehicle
Another interesting energy solution shown here is combined methane gas. Mainly consisting of methane, the gas is compressed to 1% of the volume it takes at standard atmospheric pressure. This fuel can be used in traditional internal combustion engines, albeit with some modification to use either alone or in a dual liquid system. Much of the gas can come from livestock farming, such as cows.
A Flying Car?!
A flying car was something many thought of back in the day when you watched the Jetsons or looked at 1950s videos that had glimpses into the future. Suzuki, in partnership with Skydrive, is looking to make that flying car dream a reality.
Other mobility solutions
Perhaps you need short-distance transport that’s cheap and efficient to run. Maybe you need to run to the shops down the road or move from warehouse to warehouse. 2 wheel solutions like the Suzu Ride, Suzuki GO and E Choinori will be your cup of tea, EV or EV assisted.
