The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has proposed numerous traffic calming measures on busy roads in the city’s major suburban areas.
The Directorate has identified large numbers of vulnerable road users in these areas, which are generally close to schools, hospitals, and old-age homes; with the traffic calming measures aiming to enhance safety for all roadgoers.
The City is now giving residents a chance to give their input on the proposed measures, which must be submitted before 31 July 2023.
Affected parties may comment one the matter via on of the following channels:
- Email – [email protected]
- Online – www.capetown.gov.za/haveyoursay and use reference 110222314 for comment submissions on these suburbs.
- Written – Public Participation Unit, 3rd Floor Podium Block, Civic Centre, 12 Hertzog Boulevard, Cape Town, 8001
Citizens can also approach their relevant subcouncils in the various suburbs for comment, as well as submit their feedback through libraries.
Special assistance will be given to people who cannot read or write, people with special needs, and other disadvantaged groups who are unable to submit written comments to have their inputs or comments recorded and submitted to the municipality, said the City.
Individuals can further contact the Public Participation Unit’s Anathi Dywili on 021 400 9825, or via email at [email protected], if they have any further queries on how to submit inputs.
“Although it is the City’s intention to implement calming measures at all the sites listed, there are cost-related variables which are still unknown at this point,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
“Implementation will therefore be subject to availability of funding.”
