The city of Johannesburg is currently experiencing intense flooding that is affecting several urban, residential, and low-lying areas.
The worst-affected areas include Roodepoort, Soweto, Lenasia, and parts of the Johannesburg CBD, and the flooding has resulted in severe damage to the road infrastructure.
The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) is currently working to secure the damaged areas and is closing roads and implementing barriers where necessary for the safety of the public until the waters subside.
Motorists should not attempt to cross over bridges and areas that have been barricaded, said the JRA.
“Please also do not remove barriers at bridges and on roads, they are there for your safety,” it said.
The following areas are currently affected by the flooding and it is recommended that motorists seek alternate routes where possible, said the JRA.

Motorists should not attempt to drive through flooded areas, even if the water looks shallow enough to cross.
It can be difficult to judge the depth of the water and there may be unseen obstacles and hazards washed up by the flooding.
Drivers should reduce their speed and exercise extreme caution, especially when traveling at night with poor visibility, said the JRA.
