Maruti Suzuki WagonR (24,634 units)
The new Maruti Suzuki WagonR once again emerged as the best-selling hatchback in the country by registering 24,634 unit sales in March 2022. This means the Maruti Suzuki WagonR registered more than 31 per cent YoY growth compared to 18,757 unit sales in March 2021.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno (14,520 units)
Taking the second spot is the Maruti Suzuki Baleno as the Indo-Japanese automaker managed to sell 14,529 units of Baleno hatchback in March 2022. However, YoY sales for this premium hatchback has declined by almost 32 per cent as the automaker managed to sell 21,217 units in March 2021
Maruti Suzuki Swift (13,623 units)
Though the new Maruti Suzuki Swift is a favourite among the youngsters in India, the sporty hatchback just sold 13,623 units in March 2022. Apart from that, the Maruti Suzuki Swift registered a 37 per cent YoY sales decline compared to its 21,714 unit sales in March 2021.
Hyundai i10 Nios (9,687 units)
The Hyundai i10 Nios has been a consistent performer for the South Korean automaker. However, the YoY sales for the hatchback declined by 12 per cent as the company managed to sell just 11,020 units in March 2022.
Maruti Suzuki S-Presso (7,870 units)
The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso has been a good performer for the Indo-Japanese manufacturer. Though the S-Presso managed to sell 7,870 units in March 2022, comparing sales performance, there has been an almost 9 per cent increase in YoY sales as the company managed to sell 618 units more last month.
Maruti Suzuki Alto (7,621 units)
The Maruti Suzuki Alto is a default choice for many first-time car buyers in India. However, the hatchback could only take the 7th spot in this list by registering 7,621 unit sales in March 2022. Though this number may seem decent, the entry-level model witnessed an almost 56 per cent drop in its YoY sales compared to its 17,401 unit sales in March 2021.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio (6,442 units)
The second-generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio was recently launched in the Indian four-wheeler market and the hatchback quickly gained traction in the market with 36 per cent YoY sales growth by registering 6,442 unit sales in March 2022.
Tata Altroz (4,727 units)
Tata Altroz is currently the safest hatchback in the country with a 5-star safety rating for adult protection by Global-NCAP. However, the premium hatchback from Tata Motors showed a 37 per cent decline in YoY sales as the company managed to sell just 4,727 units in March 2022.
Hyundai i20 (4,693 units)
The Hyundai i20 also registered a significant decline in sales compared to its previous year’s performance as the South Korean manufacturer managed to sell just 4,693 units of its premium hatchback in March 2022, and as a result, YoY sales dropped by 48 per cent.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis (4,472 units)
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is a stylish looking hatchback and the Indo-Japanese automaker sold 4,472 units in March 2022, resulting in a YoY increase of almost 3 per cent.
Thoughts About Top 10 Hatchbacks In March 2022
YoY hatchback sales performance has dipped for most models in March 2022. However, this could be the result of most consumers shifting to affordable sub-4m SUVs rather than a dip in sales.
