Maruti Suzuki recently launched the CNG version of the Dzire sedan and the Indo-Japanese automobile manufacturer is planning to introduce CNG variants across its model range. That being said, Tata Motors has also introduced the CNG version of the Tigor sedan in India. So, we shall compare these CNG sedans in five different categories.
Design
The CNG variants of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Tata Tigor look identical to their respective petrol-powered counterparts. However, to differentiate the CNG model of the Tata Tigor, it features an ‘i CNG’ badging.
In terms of design, both sedans look pretty decent, however, it is the Maruti Suzuki Dzire that looks a bit more proportionate and slightly more premium with its LED projector headlamps, and LED light guides on taillamps.
Features
In terms of features, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire is a very well-equipped sedan and comes packed with features such as a 7-inch infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, steering mounted controls, LED projector headlamps, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Cruise Control, Electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs and many more.
The CNG variant of the Tata Tiago is also equipped well with an almost similar set of features such as Projector headlamps, LED DRLs, Rear wash wiper with defogger, 7-inch Harman infotainment system with 8-speakers, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, steering mounted controls, and many more.
Safety
This is where the Tata Tigor scores slightly better as the Tata Tigor is of the safest cars in India as the sedan had scored a respectable 4-star safety rating for adult protection by Global-NCAP.
Apart from that, the CNG variant of the Tata Tiago comes equipped with safety features such as ABS with EBD, dual airbags, reverse parking sensors, cornering stability control, speed-sensitive auto door lock and many more.
This doesn’t mean Maruti Suzuki Dzire is unsafe, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire is also a safe sedan and comes with safety systems such as dual airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS, EBD, reversing camera, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill-Hold Assist, and a few more safety systems.
Powertrain
The Maruti Suzuki claws back with its powertrain as the 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, DualJet, 4-cylinder, petrol engine produces 88.50bhp of peak power and 113 Nm of peak torque while sipping petrol and produces 76.6bhp of peak power and 98.5Nm of peak torque using CNG.
While the Tata Tigor also uses an 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, the Revotron unit has only 3-cylinders and produces sligghlty less power and torque at 84.82bhp and 113Nm of torque in petrol mode and 73bhp and 95Nm of torque in CNG mode.
While standard variants of both these cars come with 5-speed AMT and manual gearbox options, the CNG variants come with 5-speed manual gearbox only.
Also, Maruti Suzuki claims a fuel efficiency figure of 31.12 km/kg for Dzire S-CNG compared 26.49 km/kg fuel efficiency of Tata Tigor i-CNG.
Price
Maruti Suzuki launched the CNG version of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire sedan in India with a starting price of Rs 8.14 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Whereas Tata Motors officially launched the CNG model of Tigor sedan in India for Rs 7.69 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Thoughts About CNG version of Tata Tigor & Maruti Suzuki Dzire
Thanks to the CNG fuel, cars will be a lot more fuel-efficient as well as economical to run and both companies are planning to lure more people by offering CNG variants of their respective sub-4m sedans.
