Marque upbeat after its sales and market share increase under the feebate system.
Suzuki New Zealand is celebrating scooping a record share of the market for new passenger vehicles and SUVs with sales climbing since the introduction of the government’s clean car discount programme.
The marque says a number of its models receive rebates under the feebate scheme, which came into force at the start of April this year, and no vehicles in its line-up attract a penalty.
Suzuki was the third best-selling marque for the new passenger and SUV market last month after it took a nine per cent share of all registrations, a new high for the company.
It says it has averaged 747 registrations per month since the full clean car discount scheme was launched in April, which equates to an 8.2 per cent share over that period.
Suzuki notes the surge in sales comes despite the overall new-vehicle market reducing by 20 per cent over the same timeframe.
The Suzuki Swift’s light segment market share has increased to 31 per cent since April, when it sold 406 units, with the range attracting rebates up to $3,160 under the clean car discount.
Sales of the marque’s second best-selling model, the Jimny 4WD, in the January to July period have grown 9.9 per cent when compared with the same period of 2021.
Suzuki adds registrations of the Ignis super-compact SUV year-to-date were up 6.9 per cent from last the same time a year ago, and sales of the Vitara SUV were up 12 per cent in July from the same month last year.
Gary Collins, general manager of motor vehicle for Suzuki New Zealand, says: “With buoyant sales of all our models and the new stylish S-Cross SUV just coming on stream, our product line-up is in good shape to meet the demands of customers in the current economic climate.
“We are constantly improving the technology, safety, comfort and fuel efficiency in our vehicles, while still making it easy to own an affordable and reliable car.”
Collins adds as well as positive year-to-date sales for Suzuki in New Zealand, the marque is also doing well globally.
Suzuki production worldwide for the first half of 2022 was up 4.8 per cent to 1.555 million units and production of Suzuki models outside Japan increased by 9.5 per cent compared with the same period last year.
Global sales for the same six months increased by two per cent.
