Suzuki is good at keeping a secret. The brand is now introducing for the first time its new S-Cross, which no one has seen before. And yet it is ready at Danish merchants shortly after the New Year.
The new S-Cross is not entirely new, as the platform and engine continue from the previous model, But otherwise it is new both from the outside and inside.
The S-Cross model, Which apparently completely dropped the designation of the SX4, Introduced in late 2013 and received a facelift in early 2017.
The design of the redesigned S-Cross has been adjusted. The platform / chassis has been recycled from the current generation.
More ‘Muscular and Character’
In Suzuki’s words, the design has become more muscular and character and has a clearer surface appearance.
There are now LED lights everywhere, while the cabin and dashboard have been upgraded with new materials, a new instrument housing and a new center and center console. S-Cross is the first Suzuki with a new multimedia system, which i.a. Enables 360-degree camera, Apple Apple Car Play and voice control.
Safety equipment has been improved quite a bit with – according to the equipment version – an emergency brake with pedestrian detection, active lane departure warning, winding warning, road sign detection, dead center warning and traffic behind the car warning.
The Suzuki S-Cross has a new entertainment information system and a larger central screen. The device housing is still standard with analog hands. Only in the middle of the device house there is a very small screen.
A well-known gasoline engine
The engine is the familiar 1.4 turbo engine with 129 hp, and where standard 48-volt hybrid technology is standard. The official fuel consumption is 18.9 km per liter. Now as in the past, there is a choice between a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic as well as a four-wheel drive front-wheel drive.
During 2022, the new S-Cross will also have a new hybrid system, which Suzuki calls’Strong hybrid ‘. From the description, the new hybrid is reminiscent of the classic Toyota system, but it is unclear whether the car can travel a mile or two with the petrol engine off.
The Suzuki S-Cross has LED lights everywhere. New is also that the car can brake automatically during reverse travel.
Suzuki describes this as the accumulated battery power can be used to power the car in crawl mode, during start-up and during cruising. In addition, the electric motor can provide additional torque to the petrol engine during gear changes and hard acceleration.
Electric cars on the road
The new Strong Hybrid comes first in the Vitara. This will happen during the spring of 2022, while the technique will be available on the S-Cross later this year.
At the introduction of the new S-Cross, Suzuki’s boss said Toshihiro Suzuki that the brand by 2025 is ready with electric cars in the program. That is, in the plural.
Starting from DKK 235,000
The Danish importer expects that the innovation can be left with a price increase of approx. 10,000 DKK, so that the basic model will cost approx. DKK 235,000. Although this is the basic model, there is for example. Multimedia system with reverse camera, 17-inch alloy wheels, side mirror heating, lane departure warning, windshield warning, active cruise control, front and rear LED lighting and manual air conditioning.
Suzuki plans to preview Danish dealers in early January with a ‘real’ acquaintance in February or March.
