With improvements seen in its supply chain and a healthy market demand for its products, Perodua is moving its 2023 sales projection upwards along with a corresponding revision of its production target. The company is expecting its vehicle sales to reach 325,000 units on the back of a revised production rate of 338,000 units this year.
At the start of 2023, Perodua had announced a production target of 330,000 units and sales target of 314,000 units, based on the sales momentum it received from 2021’s sales tax exemption delivery extension and demand for its latest model, the Perodua Axia.
“This month saw our highest ever production and sales performances of 35,111 units made and 33,836 units registered in a single month,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said. In comparison, Perodua produced 22,974 vehicles in October 2022 and registered 24,849 vehicles in the same month of 2022.
“While some issues such as the long-term availability of semiconductor chips still persist, but we are able to secure enough so that our 4th quarter performance would be the best in our history,” he added.
On a year-to-date basis, Perodua made 280,452 vehicles between January and October 2023, an increase of 22% from 229,811 vehicles in the same period of 2022. In terms of sales, the first 10 months of 2023 saw the registration of 267,063 vehicles, up 20.2% from 222,203 vehicles in the corresponding period of 2022.
“If this momentum continues, then the automotive industry might be able to sustain such growth in 2024, which would further help boost the consumer sentiment despite the economic uncertainties next year,” Dato’ Sri Zainal said. “For now, we are focusing on maximising our potential in both production and sales so that our customers will receive their Perodua vehicles faster,” he added.
