Maruti’s upcoming Kia Sonet and Tata Punch rival will underpin the Heartect platform.
The Compact SUV is currently the hottest segment in the country. So in order to get a better grip on this segment Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce a new compact SUV based on the Baleno hatchback. Code-named ’YTB’ internally, the upcoming crossover will be based on Baleno’s lightweight Heartect platform, which also underpins other Maruti cars like the WagonR, XL6, and the Ignis.
Maruti can reduce the developmental cost by using this platform, which will help the brand price this upcoming vehicle aggressively. Furthermore, Maruti will position this crossover between the Baleno and their compact SUV Vitara Brezza.

It is too early to predict the design of the upcoming vehicle, but it will surely take some of its styling inspiration from the Baleno premium hatchback. The new car will measure less than four metres in length to take advantage of the tax benefit, but it will also employ the tall boy design.
