The new Isuzu mu-X SUV is going on sale in South Africa in the first week of December, at a starting price of R693,800.
The second-generation Isuzu SUV sports a new look, a larger cabin, plenty of features, and a more powerful engine.
Isuzu said this mu-X offers the largest cabin in its segment – capable of fitting “up to seven adults” – while the 3.0-litre engine has been re-engineered to offer improved fuel consumption, more power, and reduced engine noise.
Features
The new Isuzu mu-X will be offered in three specifications – LS, LSE, and ONYX.
Each model features the new “World Crossflow” front grille, bi-LED headlamps, and new alloy wheels – 17-inch for the LS, 18-inch for the LSE, and 20-inch for the ONYX.
The cabin, said Isuzu, is designed for long cross-country drives and sees generous use of soft-touch materials, leather, piano black surfaces, chrome highlights, and aluminium.
A new multi-information driver’s display is standard, too, as well as a smaller, leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel.
In the LS you will then find cloth seats, whereas the LSE and ONYX grades offer leather upholstery.
The latter models also come with an eight-way electrically-adjustable driver’s seat as standard, while the range-topping ONYX is further fitted with heated front seats and an electrically-adjustable passenger seat.
Depending on the trim, a 7-inch or 9-inch infotainment display is fitted, with Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi, and a rear-view camera supported across the range.
The ONYX and LSE have an eight-speaker sound system, too, while the LS makes do with six speakers.
Additionally, the ONYX and LSE feature dual-zone climate control as standard.
The ONYX also debuts Isuzu’s Intelligent Driver Assistance Systems, which incorporates a “suite of passive and active safety systems which continuously monitor driving conditions and act autonomously to avoid a crash or minimise accident damage”.
Engine
The new Isuzu mu-X will launch in South Africa with a reworked 3.0-litre, turbo-diesel engine that generates 140kW. This is a 10kW improvement over the outgoing generation.
The engine is paired to a “fast-shifting” six-speed automatic gearbox, with both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations on offer.
Isuzu has not revealed the official torque, fuel consumption, or acceleration figures of this new motor.
