The Isuzu mu-X 1.9LS 4X2 AT and the Toyota Fortuner 2.4GD-6 are positioned as more affordable entries in their respective ranges.
The mu-X 1.9 LS is the latest addition to the lineup and serves as the curtain-raiser for the mu-X nameplate. Although motivated by a smaller displacement engine than the Fortuner, power is equal, but the mu-X’s power and torque peaks are introduced earlier in the rev range. Both are fitted with an 80-litre tank which includes the reserve, and this allows for amazing fuel ranges however, it’s the mu-X that has a higher fuel range, a result of its smaller composition.

Powertrains are very similar between the two seven-seater SUVs. Both feature a six-speed automatic transmission, and power is fed to the rear wheels. Each SUV is equipped with a rear diff lock and several driver assistance features that are necessities in the off-roading segment.
They’re nearly identical in size, although the mu-X sits on a much longer wheelbase of 2 855 mm which is 110 mm longer than the Fortuner’s wheelbase. Furthermore, the Fortuner is slightly shorter than the 1.9 LS and is slightly taller and higher-riding.
Airbag counts are identical, with seven airbags throughout the cabin, but it’s the Toyota that has a more plush cabin layout. Despite that, each SUV features nearly impeccable ride quality and comfort.
