The second-generation Isuzu mu-X will arrive in South Africa by the end of the year.
This seven-seater SUV is based on the Isuzu D-MAX bakkie and will come with multiple upgrades, said the company.
“The upcoming Isuzu mu-X is a game-changer for us, as it offers class-leading driver assistance technology, new state-of-the-art powertrains, and a luxurious interior designed for maximum comfort for seven occupants,” said Dominic Rimmer, Senior Vice President Technical Operations at Isuzu.
Isuzu has also stated that the next generation of mu-X will come equipped with a suite of passive and active safety systems.
An infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will also be available in the new mu-X.
Design
The new mu-X will get an updated look with a new grille, colour-matched bumpers, and fewer chrome accents – as shown on the vehicle in the press photos.
The interior will be updated, too, with “luxurious fittings and soft surfaces”, said Isuzu.
Preparation for launch
“We are steadily on track to launch the next-generation Isuzu mu-X in South Africa,” said Rimmer.
“Vehicle testing was successfully conducted late 2020 and we continue to test the vehicle under a number of conditions to ensure it is suitably prepared for South African conditions.”
To prepare for the arrival of the new mu-X, Isuzu has also been giving technical training to its technicians to provide better servicing and maintenance.
Another pre-launch element that Isuzu is focusing on is the availability of service and repair parts.
Its parts distribution centre in Gqeberha, which stocks over 30,000 line items, will be able to ensure that parts will be delivered to Isuzu dealers within two days of ordering.
Pricing for the new SUV is not yet available, but the current version has South African starting pricing of R695,000.
