Maruti currently offers the largest number of CNG-powered cars in India
The number of CNG models that Maruti Suzuki sells in India is the largest at the moment. With the likes of Celerio, Ertiga, Dzire, WagonR, S-Presso and others, the brand offers a number of choices in the market. But the premium Nexa offerings like the Baleno and the Ciaz are yet to get the more fuel-efficient option. But that will change soon.
0Maruti Suzuki Baleno to become first Nexa car to get CNG0
The newly introduced new-generation Maruti Suzuki Baleno will be the first car from the Nexa line-up to get a CNG variant. According to Express Drives, Shashank Srivastava said that the brand is planning to introduce a new CNG variant but the exact timing is yet to be decided.
The first car from Nexa to get CNG will be the Baleno
Maruti Suzuki did not originally plan to introduce the CNG variants of the Nexa models first. But after the discontinuation of diesel cars, and with the rising fuel prices, the customer feedback has prompted a change.
Other Nexa cars like the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz will also get CNG
Maruti Suzuki will also bring other Nexa cars like the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz under the S-CNG umbrella. However, the launch timeline remains unknown. Currently, the CNG variants contribute 15% of the total sales, which is much more than the industry average of 8%.
But the demand for the CNG cars from the Maruti Suzuki range is much higher than the industry average
Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki stopped selling diesel cars in India after the BS6 emission norms. It is one of the few manufacturers that does not offer a diesel car in the market. Whereas the competition including Tata Motors and Hyundai offer diesel as well as CNG options in the market.
